On March 18, the U.S. Air Force released its FY2020 budget proposal which indicated that its new Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) air-to-surface missile will be based on the Navy’s Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile- Extended Range (AARGM-ER). The missile, which will be used against “theater ballistic missile launchers, land attack and anti-ship cruise missile launchers, GPS jammers, anti-satellite systems, and integrated air defense systems” will be launched from internal carriage bays on the F-35A Joint Strike Fighter aircraft, according to the Air Force’s FY2020 Budget. The weapon was first mentioned in budget documents for FY2018 but did not indicate at the time that the missile would draw on AARGM-ER technology.
