The Russian army completed acceptance processes in September for the 40N6 long-range interceptor for use by its S-400 units. The Russian Aerospace Force plans to procure more than 1,000 40N6 missiles by 2027 and form 56 new battalions to operate recently acquired S-400 systems, which entered service in August 2018. The 40N6 is a long-range missile designed to counter early warning and electronic warfare aircraft, hardened ground targets, and ballistic and cruise missiles. Reports indicate the missile’s destruction range is up to 380 km for aerodynamic targets and up to 15 km for ballistic weapons at an altitude ranging from 10 m to 35 km.
