IDF Deploys Additional Iron Dome Defenses

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has deployed more Iron Dome defense systems in central and southern Israel, according to an IDF announcement on June 15. The deployment follows significant clashes between Israel and Hamas militants over the past weekend. After Palestinian protests on Friday, during which an IDF officer was injured, Israeli Air Forces bombed Hamas targets as Hamas fired rockets into Israel on Saturday. Reports indicate that approximately 200 rockets and mortar shells were fired from Gaza into Israel. Israeli news agency Haaretz reported that “73 projectiles struck open areas in Israel while 37 projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.”
