On July 23, Iran announced the mass-production of the Fakour, an Iranian air-to-air missile (AAM) likely related to the U.S. AIM-54 Phoenix. Speaking at a ceremony, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami explained, “Fakour is a radar-equipped mid-range air-to-air missile which has been designed and built with the help of the latest state-of-the-art world technologies.” The missile was first built in October 2013 and has equipped F-14 Tomcats. The Fakour has a reported range of 220 km, which would make it the longest-range AAM produced by Iran.
