On November 2, U.S. Air Force Colonel Mike Andrews confirmed U.S. approval of Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) integration into Germany’s air and missile defense system, TLVS. The PAC-3 is an extended range interceptor and uses hit-to-kill technology, making it more accurate than previous Patriot interceptors. As a part of a multimillion dollar arms sale that began in 2015, Lockheed Martin and MBDA Deutschland are collaborating on Germany’s Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS), but Lockheed required government approval to integrate the Patriot system into TLVS, as it is developed separately from MEADS. According to an unnamed German defense ministry source, both Germany and the United States are committed to signing a contract.
