Reports claim that UK Prime Minister Theresa May was aware of a malfunction that occurred during a June 2016 test-launch of an unarmed Trident II D5 missile when she spoke and voted in favor of renewing the Trident program last June. The Trident ballistic missile was tested as part of a certification program for the crew of the HMS Vengeance submarine, a test that resulted in the missile veering off towards the American coast. Despite being briefed on the malfunction, PM May failed to divulge the failure to Parliament when she defended the Trident program before a parliamentary vote, which passed with an overwhelming majority. When questioned on the subject Sunday, PM May failed to disclose whether she was aware of the malfunction before the vote. However, she did say that she has “absolute faith in [their] Trident missiles. When [she] made that speech in the House of Commons, what [they] were talking about was whether or not we should renew [the] Trident.”
