Turkey Unveils Long-range Air Defense Missile System

On October 31, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the creation of the National Long Range Regional Air Defense System (SIPER) at the opening ceremony of National Technology Development and Infrastructure. According to President Erdogan, Turkey has made significant advancements in high-resolution observation, satellite technology, and information support systems. Also unveiled at the ceremony were Turkey’s Optical Systems Research Laboratory (OPMER) to develop communications satellites and subsystems, as well as the Warhead Rail System Dynamic Test Infrastructure (HABRAS) to test the efficiency of Turkish- and foreign-developed weapons systems. The first delivery of the SIPER is planned for 2021.
