On August 15, Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired a 3M-14 Kalibr (SS-N-30) cruise missile in a Black Sea naval exercise. According to Russian news agency TASS, “This was the first firing exercise held from aboard a surface ship of the Black Sea Fleet using the Kalibr precision system as part of the combat training plan, the [Russian Black Sea] Fleet said.” TASS also reported that “‘[t]he missile successfully hit the target simulating a notional enemy’s warship staying at a distance of about 40 nautical miles [about 80 kilometers],’ the press office said.” The Kalibr has a range of 1,500 to 2,500 km and may be nuclear capable.
