On July 21, Russian Ambassador to Qatar Nurmakhmad Kholov told Russian news agency TASS that Qatar and Russia had been discussing the sale of the S-400 Triumf missile system. In October 2017, Russia and Qatar signed a small arms agreement, with contract agreements following. In the interview, Kholov stated, “As for air defense systems, S-400 systems and so on, there is talk of this, but so far there is no concrete conclusion. Apparently, this is the business of the future, but there are no concrete steps in this direction yet.” Russia is now finalizing S-400 sales with Turkey and India. The S-400 has a range of 250 to 400 km and can engage aircraft, UAVs, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles in their terminal phase.
