On November 2, Romania’s Ministry of Defense announced it has paid $395,847,480 (USD) for an additional three Patriot Advanced Configuration-3+ (PAC-3) Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Systems per a May 2018 contract. The new purchases follow a November 2017 contract for seven Patriot systems. Romanian AMD forces will begin training to operate the Patriots in the United States in March 2019 while the new systems are slated for delivery in April 2020. Romania, which is a NATO member, also operates an Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defense site.
