On October 30, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced that it concluded a $777 million deal with India for the Barak-8 Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM) Air and Missile Defense (AMD) system. Seven Indian navy ships will be outfitted with the system. The Barak-8 was a joint project between IAI and the Indian weapons development authority DRDO. It provides broad aerial and point defense against fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, drones, and projectile threats in both its land- and ship-based configurations. India concluded another deal in August 2018 to equip its Saar-6 corvettes with the Barak-8 system as well.
