On November 20, Indian Defense Ministry officials announced the signing of a $500 million deal between India and Russia for the design and transfer of technology to build two Admiral Grigorovich-class (Project 11356/Talwar-class) guided-missile stealth frigates. India will begin construction of the two frigates at the Goa Shipyard in 2020. According to Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) chief Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital (retd), the first frigate will be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2026 and the second in 2027. This deal is part of a larger umbrella agreement between the two nations to add four Grigorovich-class frigates to the Indian Navy. The first two frigates were purchased by India in a $950 million deal in October 2018. These four frigates will be armed with the BrahMos cruise missile and will add to the six such frigates already possessed by the Indian Navy.
