On November 11, the Israeli military shot down a Syrian reconnaissance drone patrolling near the demilitarized zone north of the Golan Heights with a Patriot interceptor missile. While initial reports indicated the unmanned aerial vehicle was Russian-designed, the Israeli military is also investigating if there is a connection to Iran and Hezbollah. “We hold the Syrian regime responsible for any firing or breach of sovereignty and call on it to hold back all players active in its territory,” said Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. Israel last used a Patriot interceptor to shoot down a Hezbollah-piloted drone operating in the same region on September 19.
