Iran Missile Test May Have Been Variant of NK Musudan

A recent statement by a U.S. official to reporters suggests that Iran’s Khorramshahr missile, which Iran tested on January 29, may have been a variant of North Korea’s Musudan medium-range ballistic missile. The official suggested in an interview with Reuters that Sunday’s test was the first time the missile had been tested since July 2016. News reports from July 2016 reported a failed Iranian test of a Musudan variant. Details about the Khorramshahr have been scarce, only being previously mentioned by Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Deghan in September 2016. Earlier reports suggest that North Korea may have transferred as many as 19 Musudan missiles to Iran in 2005.
